Animators Toolbox: "After Effects" by Matthijs Clasener
Based on what we have learned during the two years of covid, lock downs every now and then, I’ve created a new lesson which works in a hybrid way of teaching. A brief outline of the lesson plan would be that the students need to animate a font with use of Adobe After Effects.
The target group is a first year student in his first lesson in the animation curriculum. In this day and age a student needs to keep up with the industry, technology and software. We can’t teach them tools anymore which they can use until retirement. So what I try to do is give them an assignment and a handful of techniques they need to use, but we expect them to search for more techniques.
All of this assignment lives within this Adobe Express page which we keep up to date during the weeks of this assignment (4 weeks, 4 hours a week).
Students need to keep up an online Learning Journal with learning outcomes. At random students will need to present their learning journals along the way. This randomizer is fun to use for selecting a student.
There is more theory, demoing and coaching during the physical lessons, but can easily be done online too if needed (let’s hope we won’t).
